VAGA SU SPINA ASCOSA (dal Libro VII dei Madrigali di Claudio Monteverdi) for string quartet

VAGA SU SPINA ASCOSA is an arrangement of the same title madrigal from the Book VII of Madrigals by Monteverdi Tag’ class=’claudio-monteverdi-en’>Claudio Monteverdi commissioned by the Delian Quartet for the concert season of the Duisburger Philarmoniker.

The three voices of the original are kept untouched but they are assigned to the four instruments of the string quartet in a patchwork-like texture while the bass part is blown out in all the quartet registers and inserted in the interstices of the resulting ‘fake’ four-voices polyphony.

It is conceived as an introduction of the arrangement I made of ‘I miei languidi sguardi’, madrigal in ‘rappresentativo’ style again from Book VII, and as a part of a wider project on Monteverdi that I am developing.
