-------------------

Ophelia is a ‘missing woman’, an object of the male fetishism, an individual who moves from the childhood directly to death passing through madness: she is a ghost whose presence arise fear in her observers as an image of the ‘different’, of the ‘not-known’; a disturbing presence-absence obsessively tied to death and to a kind of sexuality that has to be dismissed. Of her we don’t know much, only what other people say, of how they describe her; but she is ‘missing’ and, while weaving garlands which have symbolically the same shape of the initial letter of her name (the landmark of

identity), tries to express her own being without succeed in it, falling under her weight and, just after, becoming a water creature. And, like a siren, sings in search of her ‘appropriate’ voice, telling us about her absence and suffering through that ‘song of the mad’ which only seems to testify the loss of the reason but that, actually, gives presence and transcends her in a universal icon.
